Curator Review & Historical Significance

The starting point for anyone who wants to understand cumbia at its source. Led by master flautist Pedro 'Ramayá' Beltrán, this 1964 Polydor recording uses the caña de millo flute as the main melody over bass drum and hand drums. Tracks like 'El Garabato' and 'Cumbia Cienaguera' are pure, unfiltered Caribbean coast cumbia. Cited by The Vinyl Factory as the essential entry point to the genre.
